Since it's November I think Gratitude is an appropriate title for today's post. Actually when we left Texas I started keeping a gratitude journal, which I have written in almost every night since then...given the events of the past week, it was a little overlooked. But it's been a wonderful experience. To be honest, some days I have to think a lot harder than others for at least three things to write down.
But especially today I am feeling very grateful. Grateful for the peace that comes from only One Source.
To be honest I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed by life. We knew that moving to CT for the year wouldn't be easy. But never did we imagine it would be as full of challneges as it has been so far. Two major storms in two months. Both leaving us without power, water or in the case this last week, heat. With temperatures in the 20's at night it was daunting to say the least. It's also amazing just how quickly your house can become in complete shambles when you are without electricity or water.
The kids have been out of school for a week now, and Lynn has gone to Utah unexpectedly to be with his family, (which I am fully supportive of and so glad he could). With his parents health, and other family members with serious health issues it's a good time for him to be there.
Needless to say I feel like crying "Uncle". But today as I sat in Sacrament meeting and listened to the words of the sacrament hymn, and read the words to other favorite hymns, I was reminded of the sweet peace that came when making the decision to come here. Even though I may rationalize to myself and think, "well if we were in Texas, we'd only be facing SOME of these challenges", I know that my Savior and my Father in Heaven are mindful of me. They are lifting me up and giving me the strength to carry on. And in the process, I'm growing. I'm learning things about myself I didn't know before. Our family is growing together.
And I can honestly say that I'm grateful for the challenges. Or perhaps more correctly, I'm grateful for the blessings that come because of the challenges.

Gratitude

I was reading an old talk I wrote tonight where I shared a story of an emperor moth and thought of you and your current situation. Then I go to google reader and read this post so I have to share.
"One day a man found a cocoon of an emperor moth. He took it home so that he could watch the moth come out of the cocoon. On the day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to force the body through that little hole.
Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. It just seemed to be stuck. Then the man, in his kindness, decided to help the moth, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The moth then emerged easily.
But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the moth because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the little moth spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.
What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the moth to get through the tiny opening was the way of forcing fluid from the body of the moth into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Freedom and flight would only come after the struggle. By depriving the moth of a struggle, he deprived the moth of health.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through our life without any obstacles, we would be crippled.
We would not be as strong as what we could have been."
I believe this the your refiners fire and HF is preparing you for something bigger and better. Bless you all!
